Brief Overview
My name is Candace Simcox, I was born and briefly raised in Pittsburgh and Shippenville, Pennsylvania. My father was in the military so I was able to experience a lot, which gave me multiple journeys, situations and circumstances that were either positive or negative and learning to grow and adapt to these challenges. Our last duty station was here in Missouri in 1995 and have continued to have many more journeys, ups and downs along the way. Built a home in 2001 near Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and have continued to explore my life's journey. Graduating with my Masters Degree in Counseling in 2013 and starting my trauma studies in 2014.
I also love animals and have many, which includes dogs and horses. I love to train my dogs and though have not yet started the journey to be a professional trainer, am a self-proclaimed trainer with skills that have allow some of my dogs to receive AKC titles of Advanced Canine Good Citizen. My clinical interest is focused on the treatment of children, adolescents, adults and families whose lives have been impacted by complex trauma. I have experience working with young children, adolescents, teens, and adult survivors of severe childhood abuse and neglect, first responders, and combat veterans. As well as integrating the human-animal bond through animal assisted therapy and interventions.
I have experience with working with organizations to transition to the Missouri Model: A Developmental Framework for Trauma Informed and the core principles for organizational requirements. I have received specialized training in Trauma Informed Care (TIC), Attachment, Regulation and Competency (ARC), and Neuro-Relational Framework (NRF). I am certified in Clinical Trauma, Family Systems Trauma, Child and Adolescent Trauma, and an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) clinician working towards becoming an EMDRIA-approved therapist - this is a process that uses eye movement or bilateral sensations to heal and can heal multiple traumas at once. Additionally, I am a Trauma Consultant and a member of the International Association of Trauma Professionals (IATP). Trauma has been a big part of my life and I have had to re-learn how to go about my day and truly tolerate distressing thoughts or feelings. I am grateful for the opportunities to not only heal from them but to learn how to help others that have experienced their own traumas be able to truly heal. |
